How To Make a Track in TrackMania

This guide will explain the do’s and don’ts of making a track in any TrackMania game.

You Will Need

  • A computer
  • A TrackMania game
  • Custom elements (optional)

Step 1: 1

Choose an environment. These include Alpine, Desert, Rally, Island, Bay, Coast, and Stadium. You can choose between all of these if you are playing TrackMania United. First three are TrackMania Original, the second three are from TrackMania Sunrise, and the Stadium environment comes with the free TrackMania Nations game.

Step 2: 2

Create land. You might want to try covering the whole workspace with land, building your track, and then deleting excess land for more water. (Ignore this if using Stadium or TrackMania Original environments.)

Step 3: 3

Build your track using the blocks available. If you downloaded the expansions, you will have many more blocks to choose from. Make sure you have a Start and Finish Line, or you can have a circuit track.

One comment I get a lot is braking. Most people like those tracks where you can just speed right through without braking. Don’t make tracks that have a lot of sharp corners in them or even platform-like elements in a race.

Another tip is to use lots of jumps and off-road stuff, too. Don’t make it all road!

Step 4: 4

Make a MediaTracker. These are hard to make, but once you get the hang of it it’s quite easy. MediaTrackers include custom in-game cameras (e.g. switching to bumper cam for a stunt portion), intros (e.g. an overview of the track) and outros (e.g. GREAT JOB! YOU FINISHED THE RACE!).

Another thing you can do with MediaTracker is GPS. Have you ever had one of those hard tracks that you couldn’t figure out where to go? Those tracks probably have a gps! A GPS is triggered by, for example, jumping into a road-side sign. That triggers a camera fly-through of where you have to go.
