First of all, make sure your likes are similar, if your changing your entire life for them, its not worth the effort and its being someone your not, which sucks. Once they have become comfortable with you, start talking more about your life and being the centre of attention at some points.

No that you’re friends with them, you will start to see a change in things. People that the kids know will also respect you and you will be invited to places, and that’s good. Treat them like you would normal friends.
