How To Make a Good Suggestion

Everyone has that friend that asks for help now and then.Or maybe you just have a bunch of friends that ask for help once and it just SEEMS like you’re always being asked for advice.Well, now you can stop telling them half-guessing ideas and give them actual good advice.

You Will Need

  • A friend(s) in need
  • Consideration
  • Experience
  • Thoughtfulness
  • Creativity

Step 1: Assess the problem

When your friend asks for your advice, think about whether you can even help,if its moral or something you’ve gone through previously,go for it.If you have no experience and the situation calls for specific answers, don’t give out advice,it’s worse to give bad advice than to give none at all.

Step 2: Do you have experience?

If yes, tell about what you did and why this was a bad or good choice. If not, skip this step.

Step 3: Don't think of yourself

When people ask you”what would you do?” they really mean “put yourself in my shoes and tell me that what I’m thinking is right and if not,why am I wrong?”Think about all aspects of the person’s situation then put yourself in their shoes taking into consideration their personality and mannerisms.

Step 4: If it calls for a plan, make one

Think with your friend on how you can solve this.Ex: Maybe your friend is failing and doesn’t want to show her grades to her parents.Make a plan on how you can maybe get to a scanner before he/she goes home or plan for he/she to stay the night with you, then say they lost it.

Step 5: Comfort them

If for some reason the advice doesn’t seem to help or the situation is hopeless, atleast make the person feel better. And if the person is nervous about your advice and/or plan, make sure to tell them it’ll be fine and make sure they have confidence(even if you have little hope for them).
