There you are—you’ve got your dress or tux, but your date just came down with last-minute mono. So how does one fly solo at the prom?
Circumstances have deemed that you won’t have a date for the prom. Time to accept the fact and commit yourself to having a good time no matter what.
Look good. Just because you’re going alone is no reason to give up on fashion.
Go with your best friend who doesn’t have a date either. You can commiserate and make fun of everyone together.
If your best friend has a date, go with the two of them. Chances are you’re all pretty chummy to start with, and now you can split the cost of the limo. This is where your bff earns that second “f.”
Do not hit on your friend’s date. This is completely uncool… and could make the prom a little too memorable.
If you don’t want to have to find things to do while other people are dancing or losing their virginity, you can always volunteer at the snack table.
Have a good explanation for why you’re alone. If your date cancelled because of an illness, be honest. If he or she stood you up for another person or for some unknown reason, feel free to embellish.
Dance, dance, dance… You might as well have a good time!
Keep your eyes peeled for prom wreckage—these are the breakups that invariably happen on prom night. Some major fun can be had on the rebound.

Research shows that 50% of girls spend over $400 on the prom.
