A subtle twist on the vodka martini, this drink simply substitutes Japanese rice wine, or sake, for vermouth. Try it and you just might develop a yen for this delight.
Chill the martini glass by filling it with ice and water, and set it aside.
Fill the mixing glass with ice.
Add the vodka and sake.
Storing your sake in the refrigerator can help preserve it for up to a year.
Using the cocktail shaker as a lid for the mixing glass, shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
Empty the now chilled martini glass and quickly wipe the inside to remove any trace of moisture.
Strain the contents of the shaker into the martini glass.
Garnish with an olive. Kampai!
Although sake is referred to as a wine, it’s actually closely related to beer since it’s made from a grain—rice—rather than fruit.
