How to Make a Bloody Mary

According to one strain of cocktail lore, the Bloody Mary was named after Queen Mary I, who required this spicy combination of vodka and tomato juice to soothe her nerves after a hard day of signing death sentences. Enjoy!

You Will Need

  • Ice
  • A highball glass
  • A measuring jigger
  • A cocktail shaker
  • A strainer
  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka
  • 3 oz. tomato juice
  • A dash of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. Worcester sauce
  • A dash of hot sauce
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • A pinch of celery salt
  • 1 lime wedge
  • A celery stick
  • A pinch of horseradish

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Scoop ice

    Scoop ice into the cocktail shaker.

  2. Step 2

    Pour vodka, tomato juice, & lemon juice

    Pour in the vodka, tomato juice, and lemon juice.

  3. Step 3

    Add Worcester & hot sauce, then celery & pepper

    Next add the Worcester and hot sauce, then the celery salt and black pepper.

  4. Step 4

    Add celery salt.

    Sprinkle in a pinch of celery salt.

  5. If you're looking for some real kick, add a pinch or two of horseradish to the mix.

    Shake

    Shake vigorously for 5 seconds.

    Fill glass with ice

    Fill the highball glass about halfway with ice.

  8. Step 7

    Strain & add lime

    Strain the drink into the highball glass, and add the lime wedge.

  9. Step 8

    Garnish & serve

    Garnish with the celery stick, give it one last swirl, and serve.
