Step 2: Respect their decision

Respect the decision of the firefighters, which will be based on factors like how hot it is, how many children are in that vicinity, and whether other hydrants have already been opened nearby for cooling off purposes.

As a general rule, fire departments won’t open hydrants unless it is over 90° Fahrenheit.

Only problem here is in my 16,000 population town runs on a giant well which currently is low and so a restricted water ban has been in effect for about a month now. The surrounding cities run off of three reservoirs which can run low in that hot weather also resulting in a restricted water ban.
