My tub has no straining system (such as on the one you demo), so your tip has no benefit to me.

I guess you have a very old tube. But still the same yours should be very similar. If you can send me a picture of what you have and I'll advise you how to go about fixing it.

It's just a basic hole in the tub drain, that you put a stopper plug in it to take a bath. No mechanisms or levers to pull or push.
