Michelle..your food looks yummy..but what you cooked was not jollof rice..it was white rice with a beef stew over it. You used some of the flavors of jollof rice, but your title is misleading to those who don't know what jollof rice is or have never had it.
this is NOT jellof rice! ask any nigerian ghanian or sierra leonian and most africans in general...jollof rice is famous for its REd colour.
the stew is cooked first and the rice is added to it. the rice is cooked IN the stew and water is added to it, the rice stew and water are left to cook very slowly.
i dont know what this is but is is certainly something i have never seen before. im sorry but i just had to inform you.
Michelle what you cooked is definitely not jollof rice but rice and stew. Jollof rice is more similar to spanish rice than what you cooke. The rice made by the senegalese is similar to jollof rice except the meat or fish is cooked in the stew first with vegetables then taken out and the rice is then cooked in the sauce. It is similar to jollof rice but definitely not the same spices or taste. If you want to know how to cook jollof rice talk to any Nigerian.
