QWhat is the Organization of American States (OAS): It is a multilateral body that brings together the 34 democratically elected nations of the Western hemisphere to strengthen cooperation on democratic values, defend common interests and debate the major issues facing the region and the world.
What is the Permanent Council: ongoing actions are guided by the Permanent Council, which meets regularly at the OAS Washington and is made up of ambassadors appointed by the 34 member states.
What is the Summits of the Americas Secretariat: under the auspices of the OAS, the SAS acts as the institutional memory and technical Secretariat to the Summits Process.
