Steps

Step 1
Avoid hot hair care
Let your hair air-dry whenever you can or use only the cool setting on your hair dryer. Limit the use of heated styling tools like flat irons and hot rollers. When you do use them, first apply a leave-in conditioner designed to protect hair from heat.
-
Step 2
Wear a hair sunscreen
Wear a hair gel or spray that filters out UV rays, especially if you're spending the day at the beach. The sun and saltwater can turn blondes into bleached blondes and brunettes and redheads into "orangeheads," whether your hair is color-treated or not. Better still, wear a hat.
-
Step 3
Avoid drying products
Avoid hair products that contain high concentrations of drying ingredients, like alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, and parabens. Look for products with moisturizing ingredients instead, like jojoba and shea and cocoa butter.
-
Step 4
Get frequent trims
Get your hair trimmed once a month in the summer to keep split ends at bay.
-
Step 5
Deep condition your hair
Deep condition your hair weekly during the summer months. It will help replenish the moisture the sun sucks out of it. Now get outside and enjoy yourself!
