Want to be competitive in the world of fashion buying? Follow these steps to make yourself a top candidate.
You Will Need
- Formal education
- An eye for fashion
- An interest in sales, marketing, and consumer trends
Step 1
Enroll in a fashion merchandising program at an art school or college.
Look for a program that includes courses in accounting, marketing, management, textiles, and design.
Step 2
Get an internship at a boutique or department store. You’ll gain first-hand experience.
Serve multiple internships to gain experience.
Step 3
Maintain good relationships with instructors, fellow students, and internship contacts.
Step 4
Prepare an organized, error-free, up-to-date resume. Use a sophisticated font and design, and include references.
