The Picnic Game is a great memory-building game that’s a fun classroom activity and perfect for long road trips with little ones.

You Will Need

  • Two to four people
How To Play the Picnic Game: Say the first line

Step 1: Say the first line

Say the line, “I’m going on a picnic, and I’m going to bring,” and then add something that begins with the letter A, such as ants: “I’m going on a picnic, and I’m going to bring ants.”

How To Play the Picnic Game: Repeat the line

Step 2: Repeat the line

Have the next player repeat the first line, complete with the item added to the end, adding something that begins with the letter B: “I’m going on a picnic, and I’m going to bring ants and a basket.”

For older kids that are already well versed in the alphabet, pick a theme for the items, like food or animals, to increase the difficulty level.

How To Play the Picnic Game: Continue

Step 3: Continue

Players continue repeating the items that came before and adding a new item until they reach the end of the alphabet.

If you’re playing with young children, skip difficult letters, such as Q and X.

How To Play the Picnic Game: End the game

Step 4: End the game

End the game when someone can’t repeat all the items in the list.

Did you know? The modern 26-letter alphabet was finally completed in the 17th century.
