by HeatherMenicucciBanana Boat is their street name, but these will surpass your fantasy for a campfire dessert–hence the new and improved name. Their warm, mushy goodness will win the hearts of your troop who will happily cheat on their long-beloved s'mores.
You Will Need
- 2 Unpeeled bananas
- Chocolate bar or a handful of chocolate chips
- 2 Banana-fitted squares of aluminum foil
-
Step 1: Spark it up
Prepare a campfire and let it burn down to hot coals.
-
Step 2: Make a careful incision
Slit the bananas with a knife lengthwise, cutting through the skin and halfway through the banana.
-
Tip
Be careful to stop before you reach the ends.
-
Step 3: Is that a pocket in your banana?
Break up the chocolate bar and slip an even number of squares or chips into the pocket in each banana.
-
Step 4: No sticks, but no burnt marshmallows either (ew)
Wrap each banana up in a square of foil and place in the campfire coals (or even on a grate over the fire) for 4 to 5 minutes.
-
Step 5: Hot, sweet, gooey, good
Carefully open on a plate and eat the delicious mess with a spoon or fork.
-
Fact
The banana is mentioned for the first time in written history in Buddhist texts in 600 BCE.
