How to Add Steps To an Uploaded Video

The Howcast video player allows users to add time-coded instructions to their videos, and add instructions to other users’ videos or to embedded third-party videos.

You Will Need

  • Howcast account

Step 1: Sign in

Sign into your Howcast account or create a new account. If you don’t have an account on Howcast, you can create a new account.

Step 2: Edit

Click the Edit link at the top right of the video’s page. You will be taken to the edit page for the video.

Step 3: Play

Press Play to begin playing the video.

Step 4: Add a step marker

Click the + button or hit Enter to add an Easy Step marker at the relevant point of the video. The video will pause.

Step 5: Select an instruction type

Select the type of instruction you want to insert — step, tip, warning, or fact. Enter the information for your instruction.

You can only edit or add instructions and time-codes to your own videos or to videos from other users or third parties. You can’t change the steps in Howcast videos.

Step 6: Continue playing and repeat

Hit Enter to resume playing the video, and repeat the process for any other Easy Steps you wish to add.

Step 7: Save

Click Save Changes to save your edits.
