  • January 31, 2008

Got a useful skill or area of expertise to share? Spread the word by adding a how-to video or guide to Howcast.

You Will Need

  • Howcast account
  • Knowledge of a particular topic
  • Video on your computer (optional)
  • Images (optional)

Step 1: Sign in

Sign into your Howcast account. If you don’t have an account, you can create a new account.

Step 2: Create a video or guide

Click on the Create a Video or Guide button at the top of any page.

Step 3: Upload a video

If you have a video for your how-to, click on the Upload Video button and select a video file from your computer. Make sure the video abides by Howcast’s content policies. Alternatively, you can embed a video from a third-party video site.

Step 4: Enter title and description

Write a title and description for you how-to. Both fields are required.

If your how-to is quick and simple, only enter a title and description.

Step 5: Add tags

Add tags, or keywords, to make your guide easier for users to find.

Step 6: Add materials

In the You Will Need section, include all the materials you will need to complete the instructions. Add one item per line; new boxes will appear as you type.

Step 7: Add steps, tips, warnings, facts

Add steps, tips, warnings, and facts to your how-to guide. You can choose between them by clicking the corresponding buttons at the top of each instruction box. New boxes will appear as you type.

Add an image to each step to clearly illustrate how to perform the task.

Step 8: Save

Click Save Changes to publish your how-to. You will be redirected to the how-to page; if you uploaded a video, the page will indicate the status of the video processing, and once the upload has completed, your video will appear.
