How to perform soccer skills like a Brazilian

You Will Need

  • a soccer ball
  • a reasonably flat surface (optional)
  • suitable footwear

Step 1: The Stepover

Start with the ball stationary and practice sweeping your legs over and around the ball. Next try the same technique while dribbling, this will keep the opponent guessing which way you will try to go past them, you can perform one stepover or many. This technique can also be used as a dummy pass.

Step 2: The Rollover

Again start with the ball stationay at first. Lean into the direction you want to go and roll the ball in that direction with the sole of your shoe or boot. Then try the same technique while dribbling. This is a quick and stylish way to pass an opponent or keep the ball from them.

Step 3: The Christiano

With the ball underneath you, chop it with the inside of your foot. This is a good way to go round your opponent when running at speed, or to pass with a bit of disguise.

Step 4: The No Look Pass

make sure your stationary foot is close to the ball, look in one direction and kick the ball the other way, this will confuse the opponent.

You must have a good awareness of where the ball is to attempt this trick, otherwise you could end up looking a bit silly.

Step 5: The Ronaldinho

This one of the most difficult tricks you can do. Lean into the direction you want the opposition player to think you are going, start to move the ball with the outside of your foot (a slight chopping action is required). At the last moment switch your weight to the other foot and dribble the ball away with the inside of your foot.

Step 6: The spin drag

This is a good trick to learn and is not too difficult, again, try it first with the ball stationary. Put one foot on the ball, this will make your opponent think you are stopping your dribble, perhaps to change direction or pass. Next spin 180 degrees and drag the ball in the direction you want to go, then spin the full 360 to face the same direction you were originally facing and dribble the ball away.

You don’t have to go the full 360 degrees, you can use the same technique to go 90 degrees or other variations.
