Hemorrhoids are uncomfortable and embarrassing. Get some relief with these remedies.
If hemorrhoids cause pain, bleed frequently, or don’t improve with home remedies, see a doctor.
Eat more fiber. Adding whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables to your daily diet will aid the elimination process, making your bathroom trips less painful.
A cold compress or ice pack can reduce swelling and relieve itchiness. Apply to the area a few times per day to control inflammation.
Use soft, unscented toilet paper. Scented paper can irritate hemorrhoids.
Sit in a tub of warm water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the skin around the inflamed area and reduce irritation.
Avoid soap, scented bath salts, and essential oils or you could worsen the inflammation.
Over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams can provide temporary relief from the pain and may reduce swelling. These won’t make hemorrhoids disappear, but they will help to relieve discomfort.
By age 50, about half of all adults have experienced the itching, discomfort and bleeding that signal hemorrhoids.
