Don’t blow baby’s college fund on pregnancy clothes. Spend less on your maternity wardrobe with the help of these steps.
Wear your regular clothes as long as possible. When you can no longer button your pants, loop a rubber band or hair elastic through the buttonhole and around the button.
Make a belly band by cutting off the bottom 12 inches of a stretchy, seamless top. Wear the band over your regular pants to hold them up and hide the open button.
Handy with a sewing machine? Make your own maternity pants by replacing the waistband with stretchy fabric.
Layer stretchy dresses over yoga pants for a cute, comfortable look that shows off your belly.
Shop thrift stores to find deals on maternity clothes. Look for skirts with elasticized waists and stretchy or plus-sized tops.
Some stores that resell children’s clothes also carry maternity clothes.
Ask friends who have been pregnant if they have maternity clothes you can borrow. Raid a man’s closet for clothing such as cardigans, blazers, and T-shirts.
Don’t be afraid to repeat an outfit that works. After your baby is born, you’ll never have to wear it again! That is, unless you decide to go for number two.
Did you know? In an effort to conceal their changing figures from public view, Victorian women wore corsets during pregnancy, despite some knowledge of the potential harm to their fetuses.
