Learn all the basic yoga poses -- downward facing dog, lotus, plank, and so on -- so you can get toned and find a little inner calmness, too.

You Will Need

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for stretching and moving
  • A calm place where you won't be distracted or disturbed
  • A yoga mat or folded blanket

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Sit on mat

Sit on the mat with your legs extended out in front of you.

  2. Step 2

    Grab toes

Reach forward and grab your big toes, looping your index and middle fingers around them with your palms facing each other.

  3. Step 3

    Bend knee & pull foot

Bend your right knee and pull your right foot up and back toward your right ear.

  4. Imagine you are drawing back your foot like you would pull back a bowstring.

  5. Step 4

    Bring right foot toward ear

Bring your right foot up to your right ear—rather than dropping your head down to meet your foot—as your back remains straight, your chest open, and your face forward.

  6. Step 5

    Hold pose

Hold the pose for several breaths.

  7. Step 6

    Release foot & repeat

Release your right foot back to the floor next to the left foot and repeat on the other side.

  8. Step 7

    Hold pose

Hold for as many breaths as you did on the opposite side.

  9. Step 8

    Release pose

Release the pose by returning your left foot to the mat and releasing your grip on your toes. Bull's-eye.

  10. The Bhagavad Gita, one of the primary texts of the Hindu religion, is a dialogue between the archer Arjuna and the god Krishna.
