Take these steps to stay positive and get through unemployment, one of the most difficult times in your life.
Maintain a positive attitude. Don’t give in to fears and negativity, because negativity creates its own momentum and makes it harder to return to positive thinking.
Remind yourself of what you have, of what is going right in your life, and of your accomplishments.
Get up in the morning, shower, and maintain a normal routine.
Keep busy. In addition to job hunting, consider taking a class, starting your own business, joining professional associations, or volunteering.
Prioritize actions with a list. This will help clear your head and help you focus.
Take advantage of this opportunity to spend time with your family.
Exercise each day. Exercise is important to your emotional well-being and improves the body’s ability to handle anxiety and stress.
Eat healthy, regular meals and get enough sleep. You’ll be better equipped to handle the challenges ahead of you.
Laugh with friends, watch funny movies, and do whatever you can to lighten your mood.
If your mood doesn’t improve and you notice changes in sleeping or eating patterns, or have trouble concentrating on everyday tasks, seek professional help.
National unemployment insurance was established when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act of 1935.
