If you’ve ever felt intimidated when driving through a big city, take a look at these tips to help your confidence.
Find good directions for wherever you’re going. Keep them handy and review them carefully so you will be prepared.
Research some of the key driving rules that can change from city to city before driving. For example, some cities allow turning right on red while others do not.
Pay close attention to all traffic signs, especially those indicating one-way streets, construction zones, and highway entrance and exit ramps.
Know what might be going on in the city during the time you’re driving. Find out if there will be any events that might affect traffic, and listen to traffic reports on your car radio.
If the weather permits, keep your window open so it’ll be easier to hear street noises, horns, and emergency vehicles.
Stay alert at all times. If there is something you want to look at, park the car and walk to it. City driving can be enjoyable when you’ve prepared yourself properly.
Drivers in one-third of U.S. cities spend more than 40 hours a year in stopped traffic.
