How to Embed Videos From Third Party Sites

  • September 17, 2009

Embedding videos on Howcast from other video sites makes it easy to show users how to do something, even if you haven’t produced a video about it yourself.

You Will Need

  • Howcast account
  • Video URL from YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, or Metacafe

Step 1: Sign in

Sign in to your Howcast account. If you don’t have an account on Howcast, create one.

Step 2: Click "Create a Video or Guide"

Click on the Create a Video or Guide button at the top of any page.

Step 3: Upload the video

Paste the page URL of the video that you wish to embed from any Howcast-supported site (YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, or Metacafe) in the available box and click the Embed button. If the video can be embedded, you will see a “Video embedded” message.

Step 4: Add title and description

Write a title and description for your embedded video. Both fields are required.

Step 5: Add tags

Add tags, or keywords, to your how-to guide to make it easier for users to find.

Step 6: Add materials

In the You Will Need section, include all the materials you will need to complete the instructions. You should only add 1 item per line. New boxes will appear as you type.

Step 7: Add steps, tips, warnings, facts

Add steps, tips, warnings, and facts that correspond with the video to your guide. You can change the type of instruction by clicking on the corresponding buttons at the top of each instruction box. New instruction boxes will appear as you type.

Add an image to each step to clearly illustrate how to perform the task.

Step 8: Save

Click Save Changes to publish your how-to.

Step 9: Check the video's status

Once you click Save Changes you will be redirected to the how-to page, where your video’s upload status will be displayed until the video appears. Voila!
