This tutorial will show you how to make a non-destructive prank that will make someone think they have a virus on their computer every time they click on it. Please do not use this for destructive purposes.
The first step is to create a new shortcut. To do this, right click with your right mouse button on any blank area of the desktop. This will open up a menu. From the menu, go to “New” > “Shortcut”.
The Shortcut Wizard will first have you type in the location of the shortcut. For this, you will want to type: win shutdown -s -f -t 60 -c “April Fools”. The 60 represents the countdown time in seconds before the computer shuts down. You can set this to whatever you want. April Fools is the message it displays. This can also be changed to anything.
The next step is to create a name for the shortcut. In this instance, I named it “Card Game” because I am going to make it look like it’s a shortcut to a new game.
After clicking next, you will see a bunch of icons to choose from. Choose one that fits the misleading shortcut you are creating. I chose the one that looks like a hand holding playing cards. After you have picked out your icon, click finish.
Now just wait for someone to click on the shortcut you have created. When they do, it will begin shutting down their computer. This can really annoy some people, so please use accordingly (with someone who knows how to take a joke).
If you want, you can make it even more convincing. Right click on the icon and go to properties. Then click on Program and go to “Change Icon”. This will let you browse to any popular application on your computer so you can use it’s icon. Then just change the name to match that common shortcut. For instance, I changed mine to a Firefox shortcut.
