You Will Need
- Several charcoal briquette pieces
- A wide, deep soup bowl
- A mixing bowl
- 2 tbsp. bluing
- 2 tbsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. water
- 2 tbsp. ammonia
- A bowl
- Food coloring
Steps

Step 1
Rinse the charcoal
Rinse the charcoal briquettes. Leave it damp, but not soaking.

Put the charcoal in the container
Arrange the charcoal in the bottom of the soup bowl.

You can arrange the briquettes in several layers, if you like.

Step 3
Mix the ingredients
Mix the bluing, water, salt, and ammonia together in a separate bowl.

Pour mixture on the charcoal
Saturate the charcoal by pouring the mixture of over it.

Make sure the coals are completely saturated. If you don't have enough liquid to cover all the charcoal, mix more.

Step 5
Sprinkle food coloring
Gently sprinkle drops of food coloring over the coals.

Any area you don't sprinkle with food coloring will grow clear crystals.

Step 6
Set the mixture aside
Set the mixture aside where it will not be disturbed.

Step 7
Check on the mixture
Check on your mixture after a day or two and you will see the beginnings of beautiful and shimmering crystals.
