You Will Need

  • A hacksaw
  • A broom handle
  • A wood-carving knife
  • Light sand paper
  • Yellow and green or red and blue paint
  • A small box of split rings
  • 3 - 1/2" x 1/8" eye screws
  • Two teaspoons (optional)
  • A drill and 1/16-inch drill bit (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Saw off broom handle

    Saw off a 5-inch piece of broom handle.

  2. Step 2

    Scallop one end of the handle

    Scallop one end of the broom handle and carve the other end with the knife to form a rounded head.

  3. Step 3

    Smooth with light sand paper

    Smooth the rough areas with light sandpaper.

  4. Step 4

    Decide on a color scheme

    Decide on a color scheme that will attract fish, such as yellow and green or red and blue.

  5. Step 5

    Allow paint to dry

    Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

  6. Step 6

    Screw eye screw into center

    Screw an eye screw securely into the center of the scalloped end of the lure.

  7. For a moving lure, drill a hole in the middle of a spoon, then use an eye hook to attach the other spoon, screwing the end through the other spoon’s hole.

  8. Step 7

    Screw other eye screw into tip

    Screw the other eye screw into the tip of the opposite end, adding one split ring to place the treble hook on.
