Everybody has a book in them but few actually finish one. Prepare yourself to work hard for little more than the pleasure of it.
Study vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and elements of style on your own or in college classes. Read wide-ranging subjects and practice writing.
Seek a writing mentor or coach online or from the local writing community but research their credentials before paying them money. Consider hiring an editor once you’ve completed your book.
Decide what you want to tell the world and why. Brainstorm regularly and write down anything that comes to mind.
Find a quiet solitary space where it’s comfortable to write. Stare out windows and let it come.
Examine your brainstorming for themes and nuggets of inspiration and begin to polish and expand your notes.
Research the subject to find details and little-known information. Interview professionals in the field.
Outline the project, using headings, perhaps one sentence, or summarizing each chapter on cards to construct the order of the information.
Write at least three pages every day and quit talking about doing it, which will siphon energy from the actual work.
Stay on a schedule by deputizing a friend who can be tough on you and demand page deliveries on a rigid schedule.
Congratulations! Finishing a book is a great accomplishment whether or not it gets published.
The largest encyclopedia – 11,100 volumes – was written in 15th-century China.
