You've got mail...that you need to pick up, send out, package, and so much more. These tips will help you get it done more easily.

You Will Need

  • A pen
  • An envelope
  • A return address
  • The recipient's information

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Write return address

Write the return address – the sender's address – at the top left corner of the envelope. Include the sender's full name on the first line, street address or post office box on the next line, and city, state, and five-digit zip code on the third line.

  2. Write legibly so that postal workers can read it.

  3. Step 2

    Address the recipient

Write the recipient’s information in the center of the envelope. Write their name on the first line, street address or post office box on the second line, and city, state, and five-digit zip code on the third line.

  4. Adding the additional "plus-four" digits to the zip code, found at usps.com, will speed delivery.

  5. Step 3

    Place a stamp on letter

Place the correct postage on the top right corner of the envelope and put the envelope in a mailbox.

  6. Did you know? The U.S. postal system processes an average of 667 million pieces of mail each day.
