You Will Need
- A large hardcover book
- A tape measure
- A pencil
- A utility knife
- An L-bracket
- A screwdriver
- 4 short flathead wood screws
- 6 long flathead wood screws
- All-purpose glue
- A power drill
- A stud finder
Steps
-
Step 1
Find middle of back page
Open the back cover of the book and use the tape measure and pencil to find and mark the middle of the last page. Trace the outline of the bracket from this center mark outward to the page’s edge.
-
Step 2
Cut out a slot
Using the utility knife, cut out your outline of the bracket, forming a slot through about 20 pages of the book until the bracket sits flush with the book cover closed.
-
Step 3
Notch book cover
With the utility knife, notch the book cover so the bracket side of the book sits flush against the wall.
-
Step 4
Attach bracket to book
Attach the bracket to the book using the small screws and the screwdriver. The screws should not be longer than the book is thick.
-
Step 5
Fasten pages down
Fasten the pages down with one long flathead wood screw in each corner, and then glue the back cover over the screws and bracket. Place a weight on top of the book.
-
Step 6
Locate stud
Locate a stud by using a stud finder.
-
Step 7
Secure book and bracket
Drill pilot holes and secure the bracket to the wall with the remaining long screws. Now load up your shelf to hide the bracket.
