Getting up on water skis isn’t so hard. Follow these basic guidelines and you’ll be a pro in no time.
Get in the water
Make sure your life jacket is the correct size and is in serviceable condition.
Grab the tow rope while the boat is stopped and hook it on your arm while you’re putting on the skis.
Put on the water skis, making sure that the bindings are adjusted to fit your feet properly.
Pull your knees to your chest and keep the tow rope between your skis.
Don’t be afraid to lean back – your life jacket will keep you afloat.
Extend your arms in front of you so they’re nearly straight.
Indicate to the spotter that you’re ready for the driver to start the boat.
Always use a designated spotter while you are water skiing, regardless of your skill level.
Shout “Hit it!” when the rope is pulled taut and you’re ready to be pulled up.
Keep your back straight, your knees bent, and your arms straight.
Don’t try to pull yourself up; let the boat do the work for you.
Stand up, keep your weight back, and enjoy that first run around the lake – you earned it.
