If you’re left speechless when someone gives you a compliment, follow these tips and feel better about yourself the next time it happens.
Smile and say, “Thank You” when someone offers you a compliment.
Avoid deflecting the compliment or pointing out your weaknesses. This is a sign of low self-esteem.
Teach children to accept a compliment so that they will be more comfortable with receiving them later in life.
Own your accomplishments and be proud of your hard work. Don’t try to pass them off as luck.
Avoid being cocky or arrogant when accepting a compliment – be confident but humble.
Return a compliment with one directed at the person who complimented you.
Don’t negate or dismiss the compliment – this may be viewed as selfish or insincere. Be gracious when accepting compliments. Treat compliments as you would a tangible gift or present.
Did you know? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that antidepressants are the most prescribed medication in the United States.
