Here a very tasty iced tea recipe – inspired by the Ginger Citrus Tea at Balthazar Restaurant in New York City. If you don’t like ginger – this ain’t for you.
Peel the skin off the ginger root, and mince.
Fill the large pot with 8 cups of water, and turn flame on high
Add the minced ginger to pot and bring to a boil.
Add the tea bags and add to the boiling ginger water. Boil for 5 minutes.
You could also make this recipe without using tea at all – but doing so provides more flavor and of course the caffeine!
Turn heat to low and remove the tea bags and discard them. Continue to simmer the ginger and water for 20 minutes.
While the ginger is brewing, cut the lemons and squeeze a cup worth.
If possible, use an old fashioned, hand cranked juice squeezer. They get the most juice out.
After 20 mins of brewing, turn off heat and carefully strain the ginger over the large bowl. Keep the brewed ginger/tea water and discard the ginger.
Add the honey to the warm water – and stir until it’s dissolved. Now add the lemon juice
Transfer the tea to the pitcher and pour into tall glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with a fresh mint leaf.
In India, ginger is applied as a paste to the temples to relieve headaches.
