Who's to say the next New York Times bestselling author can't be you?

You Will Need

  • A break
  • Inspirational music
  • A change of scenery
  • Your favorite reading material
  • And a good piece you've written
  • A pocket notebook or journal and pen (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Take a break

Take a long break and do something else, like shopping, walking, or hitting the town with some friends.

  2. Keep a pocket notebook or journal and pen with you at all times. Inspiration strikes suddenly when you least expect it. Be ready.

  3. Step 2

    Listen to inspirational music

Listen to music that inspires you and triggers your creative imagination.

  4. Step 3

    Change the scenery

Change where you write by going outside, to a different room, or to a coffee shop.

  5. Step 4

    Free-write

Free-write on any topics at all, including your fears about writer’s block, and don't worry about being perfect; this will help you relax and rediscover your passion for writing.

  6. Step 5

    Read

Read a book, poem, or screenplay by someone you admire and get a feel for their style. This can be very effective at inspiring you to write again.

  7. Step 6

    Read

Read something you've written in the past that you liked to remind yourself that you are a good writer.

  8. Did you know? Agraphia is the permanent inability to write or draw due to brain trauma or disease.
