Epoxy resins can be used as adhesives or sealants, depending upon how they are formulated.

You Will Need

  • Nitrile rubber gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • A well-ventilated workspace
  • Cleaning supplies
  • A commercial epoxy resin and hardener
  • Mixing stick or toothpick
  • A pin (optional)

In their liquid forms, resin and hardener can irritate skin and eyes. Wear protective nitrile rubber gloves and safety glasses, and work in a well-ventilated space.

Step 1: Clean surfaces

Clean the surfaces on which you’ll be applying the epoxy resin.

Step 2: Mix ingredients

Mix the resin and hardener according to the manufacturer’s directions.

Step 3: Apply the mixture

Apply the mixture to the surface with a stick or toothpick.

Remove air bubbles by popping them, breathing on them, or piercing them with a pin.

Step 4: Let the epoxy resin dry

Let the epoxy resin dry and harden for several hours. Epoxy resins designed for use as adhesives tend to harden faster than those used for sealants.
