For high school students who earn good grades but test poorly, there are ways to get into some excellent colleges without taking the SAT.
Visit FairTest.org, the web site for the National Center for Fair and Open Testing association. They offer a list of SAT-optional schools with bachelor’s degree programs.
SAT-optional admission policies can benefit students who don’t speak English at home. The English portion of the SAT can be a barrier for many students.
Assess each school on the list. Some have unique entry requirements.
While there are over 700 SAT-optional schools with bachelor’s degree programs, high school GPAs are still the strongest admission factor.
Consider a school that offers the Portfolio Path for admission. They require samples of your best graded student work along with teacher recommendations.
Texas students in the top 10 percent of their high school classes are automatically accepted and admitted to the University of Texas and Texas A&M.
