Got a home infestation on your hands? Before you call the exterminator, try these solutions to rid yourself of insects, rodents, and more.

You Will Need

  • A veterinarian
  • Product information
  • A temporary home
  • A vacuum
  • A professional carpet cleaner
  • Hypoallergenic shampoo
  • A flea comb
  • Anti-flea mineral salt (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Catch problem

Catch the problem early. At the first signs of fleas, aggressively treat your pet and home at the same time.

  2. Step 2

    Talk to vet

Talk to your veterinarian before purchasing a collar or any flea treatment.

  3. Step 3

    Find best treatment

Find the best, safest treatment available, and understand what chemicals are being used or any side effects that can occur.

  4. Step 4

    Remove pets

Remove your pets to a temporary home before using any spray or bomb. The house should be aired out before you bring your pet back into the house.

  5. Step 5

    Vacuum

Vacuum daily, and wash your pet's bedding in hot water. Seal vacuum bags and immediately remove them from the house.

  6. Step 6

    Get carpet cleaned

Get your carpet and upholstery professionally cleaned.

  7. Have your carpet treated with an anti-flea mineral salt.

  8. Step 7

    Wash pet

Wash your pet with a hypoallergenic shampoo and use a flea comb every day. Live fleas and eggs that are combed out should be dipped into soapy water then discarded.

  9. The main attraction of Times Square's famous Hubert's Museum, from 1925 until its closing in 1957, was Heckler's Trained Flea Circus, which featured juggling, chariot riding, and dancing fleas.
