  • Dermatologist
  • Laser treatments
  • Chemical peels
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Punch techniques
  • Saline injections

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Treat acne

Treat acne using over-the-counter treatments. For severe cases, visit a dermatologist for prescription-strength drugs.

  2. Never pick at acne. It is a sure way to create scars.

  3. Step 2

    Get laser treatments

Get laser treatments. This removes the skin to make room for new skin to grow. Laser treatments use non-abrasive lasers and are less painful than older techniques.

  4. Step 3

    Use a chemical peel

Talk to your dermatologist about chemical peels. Peels use acid to remove the top layer of skin, allowing a new layer to grow.

  5. Step 4

    Consider microdermabrasion

Consider microdermabrasion, another technique used to smooth the skin. Microdermabrasion is most suitable for people suffering minor scarring.

  6. Step 5

    Try a punch technique

Try one of the three types of punch techniques. In punch replacement, a doctor removes the scar and replaces it with a skin graft. In punch excision scars are removed and wounds are closed. In punch elevation scars are cut from the bottom and then float up to the level of the skin surrounding it.

  7. Step 6

    Consider injections

Consider saline injections, in which saline is injected into the scar causing collagen to form.

  8. Step 7

    Talk to your doctor

Talk to your doctor about new treatment methods. New remedies are developed every day, and your doctor is the best resource for current news.

  9. It is estimated that 80 percent of people between the ages of 11 and 30 have experienced an acne outbreak.
