The tip at the end of this video is misleading. Just because the plane is technically more fuel efficient, it doesn't mean it is better environmentally than driving. Jet fuel is released at higher altitudes, which is much more difficult for the atmosphere to handle. You're still better off driving when possible, especially if you are driving a fuel efficient vehicle.

To add to that: take the train when possible. Especially in the northeastern US, Amtrak is fantastic. The rates are often very reasonable, especially if you get them ahead of time. Train travel has less impact environmentally and is much less stressful. I can pack liquid containers larger than 3 oz, rarely have delays, and can even change or cancel my ticket after the train has left! Amtrak seriously is amazing. It is much more comfortable travel than flying as well, and has great rewards if you are part of the frequent rider program.
