You Will Need
- 1 to 2 yards fabric
- Iron
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Straight pins
- Needle and thread or sewing machine
Steps
-
Step 1
Wash and iron
Wash and iron the fabric you want to re-cover your pillows with.
-
Step 2
Measure the pillow
Measure across the curve of the pillow to find the length and width. Add 1 inch to both measurements.
-
Step 3
Cut the front piece
Cut one piece of fabric equal to your pillow’s measurements, plus 1 inch, for the front of your pillow cover.
-
Step 4
Cut the back pieces
Cut two pieces of fabric that have the same width as the pillow, but are 6 inches shorter than the length. These will be the back of your pillow cover.
-
Step 5
Fold the back pieces and pin
Fold the edge of one of the back pieces ¼-inch along the side that is the same width as the front piece. Then, fold it over one more time and pin it in place. Repeat with the other back piece.
-
Step 6
Sew sides
Sew the hemmed sides down and remove the pins as you go.
-
Step 7
Lay pieces together
Lay the front piece right side up. Lay the back pieces on top of the front with the right sides down and edges lined up, and pin them in place.
-
Step 8
Sew along the edge
Sew along the edge of the cover, using a ½-inch seam allowance, and remove the pins as you go. Trim any loose threads.
-
Step 9
Turn right side out
Turn the pillow cover right side out, put the pillow inside, and rest your creative head.
