You Will Need

  • Scissors
  • 2 white, 9-in. paper plates
  • Pencil
  • 2 pieces of green construction paper
  • Stapler
  • Glue
  • Green paint
  • Paint brush
  • Ruler (optional)
  • Child (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Cut the band

Cut 2 1/2 inches from the rim of one of the paper plates.

  2. Measure with a ruler before cutting.

  3. Step 2

    Cut out the center

Cut out the center of the plate, leaving about a 2 1/2 inch round band.

  4. Place the plate on the child's head to check for fit. If it is too tight, cut more from the center, leaving a smaller rim.

  5. Step 3

    Repeat

Repeat these steps with the other plate.

  6. Step 4

    Draw triangles

Draw three triangles on each piece of paper, 4 inches wide at the base and 9 inches tall. Cut out the triangles.

  7. Step 5

    Staple the triangles

Evenly space the triangles around the headband and staple into place with the points facing outward.

  8. Step 6

    Glue the other plate

Glue the second plate over the top of the first to hide the staples.

  9. Step 7

    Decorate your crown

Paint your crown green to resemble the real Statue of Liberty and you are now ready to celebrate!

  10. The French shipped the Statue of Liberty to America in 350 pieces.
