You Will Need

  • Microfiber cloths
  • Electronics cleaner
  • Cotton swabs
  • Alcohol swabs

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Turn off controller

    Turn off your controller and disconnect it from the console.

  2. Step 2

    Wipe down

    Wipe the controller with a clean dry microfiber cloth to remove dust, dirt, and smudges.

  3. Step 3

    Use cleaner to remove dirt

    Spray electronics cleaner onto another clean microfiber cloth and clean the controller's surface to remove any unwanted particles or grime.

  4. Step 4

    Clean the buttons

    Spray a cotton swab with electronics cleaner. Clean the toggle switches, joystick, and buttons with the swab to remove any buildup around the edges.

  5. Cotton swabs should be moistened with cleaner, but not dripping. Excess moisture may cause damage to your controller.

  6. Step 5

    Wipe with alcohol

    Wipe the surface of the controller with an alcohol swab to remove any remaining oils or grit.

  7. Step 6

    Test and clean interior

    Test the buttons for sticking. Open the controller and clean the interior if buttons are not working smoothly.

  8. Taking apart your controller and cleaning the interior may void your warranty. Check any warranty paperwork before attempting an interior cleaning.

  9. Step 7

    Turn on

    Turn on your controller and play that new game.
