This drink was called an Old Fashioned even when it was new in the 1800s. Over 150 years later, it will still have you feeling young at heart.
Add one teaspoon of sugar to the highball glass.
Add one ounce of water.
Add a few dashes of angostura bitters and muddle the ingredients.
If you don’t have a muddler around, use the back of a bar spoon.
Add cracked ice.
Then pour in two and a half ounces of bourbon.
Garnish, drop in a swizzle stick, and serve.
The full name of this ancient drink is an Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail. In the 1800s, it was often simply called a cocktail.
