Campari – that quintessentially Italian bitters – was created in 1860 as a medicinal pre-dinner treat to aid digestion, which helped keep it on U.S. shelves even during Prohibition. So drink up, to your health!
Scoop ice into a highball glass.
Pour in the Campari.
Top off the glass with club soda.
Slice off a strip of orange rind with the knife.
Rub the orange twist around the rim of the glass, then drop it in.
Add a swizzle stick, imagine you’re in a small piazza in Rome, and alla salute!
Campari’s signature crimson color comes from a natural dye derived from a South American insect.
