How To Make Traditional Sangria

When it comes to powerful punches, sangria—which takes its name from the Spanish word for "blood"—packs a truly wicked wallop. But don’t take our word for it; mix up a batch and let the fiesta begin.

You Will Need

  • A large pitcher
  • A bottle of red wine, preferably Rioja
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 3 orange wheels
  • 3 lime wheels
  • 3 lemon wheels
  • 2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 6 oz. brandy or vodka
  • 3 oz. triple sec
  • A wooden spoon
  • Some ice
  • A measuring jigger
  • And a red wine glass
  • Peach nectar
  • Pineapple juice, or white grape juice
  • And some club soda
How To Make Traditional Sangria: Drop in fruit

Step 1: Drop in fruit

Drop three lime wheels into the bottom of the pitcher. Add three orange wheels, and three lemon wheels.

Step 2: Add lemon juice & sugar

Add two ounces of lemon juice and add two tablespoons of sugar.

How To Make Traditional Sangria: Muddle ingredients

Step 3: Muddle ingredients

Muddle the ingredients using the wooden spoon.

How To Make Traditional Sangria: Add wine, brandy & triple sec

Step 4: Add wine, brandy & triple sec

Pour in the bottle of red wine, add six ounces of brandy, and finally add three ounces of triple sec.

For a fruitier version, add peach nectar, pineapple juice, or white grape juice.

Step 5: Add ice

Add ice cubes if you are serving your batch right away.

For the tastiest results, refrigerate the pitcher overnight and add the ice just before serving.

Step 6: Pour & serve

Pour into a large red wine glasses to serve.

For a little fizz, add a splash of cold club soda to each glass before pouring in the sangria.

Spain is the 3rd largest producer of wine in the world. Italy is 2nd and France, but of course, is the first.

This was pretty helpful but it not give complete info about how much 'juice' to use. Juice was an option referenced in the video but it lacked the details.
