Steps
-
Step 1
Draw a horizontal rectangle
Draw a horizontal rectangle to represent the sofa base.
-
Step 2
Add a second horizontal rectangle
Add a second horizontal rectangle of the same size above the first, but slant the short lines slightly inward. Top it with a third rectangle, with the short lines slanted slightly outward for back cushions.
-
Step 3
Draw tall, thin rectangles
Draw tall, thin rectangles adjacent to each side of the sofa base to represent its arms.
-
Step 4
Connect
Connect the arms' top outer points to the large upper rectangle with straight lines, repeating the inward angle of the middle rectangle to show perspective.
-
Step 5
Indicate cushions
Indicate cushions by drawing straight vertical lines to divide the sofa back and seat into two or three sections. Then draw a horizontal line slightly below the seat cushions and stretch it across the length of the original rectangle.
-
Step 6
Soften and define the shape
Soften and define the shape of the sofa's back, adding small half-circles on top of the tall rectangles to detail the arms.
-
Step 7
Add details
Add details such as cushion buttons, legs, pillows or fabric patterns.
-
Step 8
Erase and shade
Erase unwanted lines. Then shade the sofa's shadowed areas to create a comfortable and cozy looking spot to stretch out and let the cares of the world slip away.
