Up next in Spring Cleaning (9 videos)
Make this annual chore less daunting with the cleaning tips and tricks in these videos.
You Will Need
- Soap and water
- Blow dryer (optional)
- Friend (optional)
Start on top
Start at the top of the room with your spring cleaning checklist and work down. Begin using your dust cloths on ceiling fans, window casings, and blinds.
Tackle screens and windows next. Use mild detergent, such as soapy water. Get the hose ready to scrub and rinse the screens on the lawn, to limit the mess.
Get started on the walls, including moldings and woodwork, by using a vacuum to remove dust first. Do the kitchen walls with a solvent-free de-greaser. Make a note to start at the bottom of walls to avoid streaks.
Beat cushions and rugs
Beat cushions and rugs outside before doing floors. Get into the chairs and couches with a vacuum crevice tool and tend to stains by following manufacturer directions. At that point, move couches and chairs, and clean behind.
Wipe wooden furniture, surfaces, moldings, and handrails with a damp folded cloth, and then polish with a cotton cloth. Where wax is used, buff the finish.
Disinfect the kitchen
Disinfect cupboards and remove refrigerator drawers and shelves, wiping each clean. Wipe the outside of the fridge, pull it out from the wall, and vacuum the coils. Use warm, soapy water to spruce up the stove, oven and microwave.
Sanitize the bathrooms, toilets, counters, stalls, and walls. Remember to check out-of-date medicines and throw expired drugs away.
Finish the list
Finish the list by sweeping all the floors, mopping, and vacuuming, even under the beds. You can enjoy your nice, clean house -- or get outside and enjoy the sunshine stress free!
