Make your spring break from school memorable with Howcast's help.

You Will Need

  • Second job
  • Cheap destination
  • Flight
  • Bike
  • House
  • Service-oriented travel group (optional)
  • Local destination (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Save money

Save your money. Put aside a little bit of money every week. Add money from selling used textbooks, can and bottle deposit refunds, and Christmas and birthday money to your spring break fund.

  2. Look into service-oriented groups that go to a location for cheap and perform a charitable service while there.

  3. Step 2

    Get a second job

Get a temporary second job to help you build up the cash to afford your trip.

  4. Step 3

    Choose a cheap destination

Choose a cheap destination for your spring break trip. If you're looking for an international destination, but aren't too picky, narrow down your choices by looking for countries where the value of the dollar against the local currency is the strongest.

  5. Consider vacationing in local places such as a beach town in your own state.

  6. Step 4

    Book wisely

Book the cheapest flight you can months in advance. Comparison shop for the best tickets, and be willing to take extra layovers to save money.

  7. Step 5

    Stay away from taxis

Stay away from taxis. When you reach your destination, take advantage of buses, walk to your destination, or rent a bike. Avoiding taxis can help make the trip much more affordable.

  8. Step 6

    Rent a house

Rent a house if you are vacationing with a group of people, and split the cost. If you can't rent a house, at least try to find a space that has a kitchen so you can save money by not going out to eat for every meal.

  9. Step 7

Get liquored up ahead of time

Have a drink or two before you go out. Drinks at night clubs and restaurants can set you back a bit, so start the process of having fun earlier in the evening.

  10. Don't drink unless you're of legal age. Drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.

  11. Step 8

    Have fun for free

Find activities, sights, and beaches you can go to for free. As long as you have your friends, your spring break trip will be affordable and fun.

  12. Before government-sponsored construction began in 1970, Cancun was a deserted stretch of Caribbean beach.
