    Plan a weekend where both of you will enjoy the day's activities. Mix up the weekend with different plans -- a little sightseeing, shopping, and eating.

  2. If you share an interest, whether it's hiking, golf, or knitting -- make sure to include that activity in your weekend planning.

    Vacation with a theme

    Vacation with a theme. Choose a spa getaway or a wine-tasting adventure.

    Stay home

    If you don't want to travel, you can still plan a special weekend together. Eat at restaurants you have always wanted to try or visit nearby towns you never seem to have time to explore.

    Visit family

    Visit family. Go stay with another relative you haven't seen for a while. If you have a sibling who lives out of town, take mom to visit there.

    Schedule down time

    Schedule down time to talk and reminisce. You may discover things about your mom you never knew.
