Steps
-
Step 1
Relax
Vegetate, read, draw, knit, or garden -- do anything but schoolwork during spring break.
-
Step 2
Do film fests
Assemble some other friends who couldn't get away and have a nightly film festival. Have a different person choose a new theme each night.
-
Step 3
Travel in the neighborhood
Stay every night at a different friend's house. Consider it a mini-vacation as you tour and explore other peoples' property and lifestyles.
-
Step 4
Check out arts
Check out local attractions, such as museums, art galleries, and theaters. Use university perks, such as free public transportation, discount meals and merchandise, and free or discounted access to art venues and attractions, to get out and experience new stuff.
-
Step 5
Improve your life
Eat better, take yoga, become more organized, or meditate -- anything you've been meaning to do to improve or spark up your life. Now's the time, when palm trees and white sand beaches can't distract you.
-
Step 6
Hike, fish, wander
Find nearby places you've never seen to hike, fish, explore, camp, or just wander with friends. Pretend you're somewhere exotic. Pack sandwiches and a camera.
-
Step 7
Get the summer job now
Spruce up your resume and look for summer jobs now. March isn't too early to submit an internship application.
-
Step 8
Challenge yourself
Challenge yourself with a project. Make or fix things around the house during spring break. Doing something for your own edification -- or your parents' benefit -- can give you a sense of freedom and pride.
