  • Paper and pen
  • House
  • Pictures of household objects
  • Store

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Look at pictures

    Spend a few minutes looking at pictures in a book that are unfamiliar to you. Close the book.

  2. Step 2

    Make a list

    Make a list on a piece of paper of as many of those objects that you can remember. Open the book again and check how well you did.

  3. Step 3

    Walk through your house

    Walk through your house and note 10 different places where you could put an object. Make sure you can walk from one location to the next easily and that you will take the same path each time you walk through the house.

  4. Step 4

    Look at pictures of 10 household objects

    Look at the pictures of 10 household objects in a magazine for a couple of minutes, and imagine each of the objects placed in one of the 10 locations in your house. Close the magazine.

  5. Step 5

    Write it down

    Write down as many of the household items you can remember on a piece of paper. Open the magazine again and check how well you did.

  6. Studies have shown that people are more likely to remember objects associated with things they are already familiar with.

  7. Step 6

    Make a list

    Make a list of 10 objects you need to buy at the store and make up stories about each of the objects. Put the list away, go shopping, and see whether you forget to buy anything on your list.
